Gynaecology
Gynaecology is a speciality that manages a women’s reproductive system. A gynaecologist manages conditions involving the uterus, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva. He might use medical, surgical or both types of treatments to treat conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, endometrial polyps, abnormal uterine bleeding , pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, infertility, infections, polycystic ovaries, menopause and others.
Office Based Surgery
Office Based Surgery offers women the option to have a consult, examination, investigation and possible treatment at one single visit. Most gynaecological issues can be safely managed in the office setting. Minor procedures such as insertion/ removal of IUCD/ Mirena, removal of small vulval lesions, Bartholin’s cyst drainage, biopsies of vulval lesions, colposcopy / biopsy and hysteroscopy can be performed in the office. This is particular helpful in patients that don’t have private health cover and aren’t keen on long wait times.
ONE STOP MENSTRUAL CLINIC /OFFICE HYSTEROSCOPY:
This a dedicated clinic to investigate and manage abnormal uterine bleeding in the office setting. Women that are bleeding abnormally will have the ability to be consulted, be examined and undergo an office hysteroscopy procedure all in one setting. Office hysteroscopy is the examination using a tiny lens that examines the uterine cavity whilst you awake. Pain is minimal. The procedure is well tolerated by 90 % women and it is completed in about 5-10 min. It can save a patient an entire day in a private or public theatre under general anaesthetic and save money. About 80-90 % patient with abnormal uterine bleeding is found to be suitable for this procedure in the office. Other patients might need the procedure under general anaesthetic. My personal audit and experiences of office hysteroscopy is available.
